Following a successful website migration during which RedCore Digital provided extensive SEO support to minimise performance loss, The Medic Life have appointed RedCore Digital as their retained SEO partner.

It’s a natural next step. We spent the migration getting to know their site, their content and their audience in detail, and now we get to build on that foundation rather than just protect it.

Who is The Medic Life?

The Medic Life helps students prepare for some of the most competitive applications in UK higher education, medicine and dentistry. Their support covers the parts of the process that trip applicants up, giving students and parents a clearer route through it.

Their audience does a lot of research before committing to anything. Students and parents are searching for guidance on admissions tests, personal statements and interviews, often months ahead of deadlines. That makes organic search one of the most important channels the business has, and their blog content a big part of how new families find them.

Wix to Shopify

The Medic Life moved their website from Wix to Shopify in October. A platform change like this is one of the riskiest moments for any site that relies on search. URLs change, internal links break, tracking disappears, and rankings that took years to earn can drop in a matter of weeks if the move isn’t handled carefully. It’s imperative that technical SEO best practice is taken seriously here.

Our job was to make sure that didn’t happen. The work included:

  • A full 301 redirect plan. We mapped old Wix URLs to their new Shopify equivalents so that search engines, and anyone following an old link, landed in the right place. This is what carries existing rankings and backlink value across to the new site.
  • Fixing broken internal links in the blog. The blog was carried over to Shopify, but the migrated posts contained hundreds of internal links still pointing at old URLs. We fixed these in bulk so readers and search engines could move through the content properly again.
  • Rebuilding tracking from scratch. We set up Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager on the new Shopify site, so The Medic Life could see exactly how the new site was performing from launch day onwards.

The new site is now live, with its content intact and its search visibility protected through the switch.

What’s next?

With the migration complete, the focus shifts from protecting performance to growing it. As The Medic Life’s retained SEO partner, we’ll be working on the things that bring more of the right students and parents to their site.

Planning a website migration?

Most of the damage from a migration happens because SEO is brought in too late, after URLs have changed and the old site has gone. If you’re thinking about moving platforms, redesigning your site or restructuring your content, speak to us before you start. We’ll help you plan the move so your rankings, traffic and leads come with you.
